Penang, also known as Pulau Pinang is a state in northwest Malaysia comprising mainland Seberang Perai (previously known as Province Wellesley) and Penang Island, where George Town is.
It is renowned as an exotic holiday destination among tourists and is mostly famous for its mouth-watering, savoury food and its history. Therefore, it is being regarded as the food capital in Malaysia. Penang has been listed as an UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 2008 as it offers visitors with amazing sceneries, unique architecture stretching from the British colonial era to the present, as well as other varied living cultures, and flavoursome cuisines.
The people who reside in Penang are known as Penagites and its made up of three ethnicities which are the Chinese, Malays and Indians. However, Penang has a larger ethnic Chinese majority than any other states in Malaysia and is mostly spoken in a Hokkien dialect. Its national language is Malay.
